Academy-Award winner Chloé Zhao's new film brings to life Maggie O’Farrell’s bestselling novel, Hamnet, telling the powerful tale of love, family and hope that inspired William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Following the lives of William, Agnes and their children, this spellbinding adaptation captures the timeless craft of herbalism and natural remedies.
While writing the book Hamnet, Maggie O’Farrell immersed herself in the world of herbalism and medicinal gardening, saying:
“I planted and cultivated my own medicinal Elizabethan garden […] I wanted to understand the labour involved in such a task, [and] what it was like for a woman at the end of the 16th century to dig in the soil [and] cultivate these plants”.
On screen, we witness Agnes’ innate connection to the natural world as she crafts potent herbal remedies to care for her family. Like Agnes, Neal’s Yard Remedies is rooted in a deep respect for nature, as we continuously look to the natural world as a source of inspiration and guidance.
