Frequently asked questions

What's the first step in a good skincare routine?

Cleansing always comes first, whether you're removing overnight build-up in the morning or make-up and sunscreen in the evening. For the full sequence to follow after cleansing, see our guide to building your skincare routine.
What's the difference between a cleansing balm and a face wash?

A cleansing balm, such as our Wild Rosehip Beauty Balm, melts into the skin to dissolve make-up and impurities before rinsing, while a face wash is a lighter, water-activated formula suited to a quick daily cleanse. Both are gentle enough to use twice a day as part of your skincare routine.
How do I know which facial cleanser suits my skin type?

Dry or sensitive skin generally benefits from a creamy balm or oil-based cleanser, while oilier or combination skin often suits a lighter foaming or gel wash. If you're not sure of your skin type, our guide to what your skin type is walks through how to work it out at home.
Are your facial cleansers suitable for sensitive skin?

Several of our cleansers, including the Calendula Cleanser, are formulated with gentle, naturally derived ingredients, though we'd always recommend checking the full ingredients list on the product page. For a dedicated range, see our organic certified sensitive collection and our guide to how to deal with sensitive skin.
Can I use a facial cleanser to remove eye make-up?

Some of our cleansers can be used around the eye area, but for a gentler option designed specifically for this, our Organic Eye Make-Up Remover is formulated to dissolve make-up without harsh rubbing.
What should I use after cleansing?

After cleansing, follow with a toner or facial mist, then a serum or facial oil, finishing with a moisturiser to lock in hydration. Explore our facial oils and serums to find the next step in your routine.
Should my cleanser change as my skin changes?

Skin's needs can shift over time, so it's worth revisiting your cleanser periodically rather than sticking with the same formula indefinitely. Our guide to skincare by age has more on how routines can evolve through your 20s, 30s and beyond.
