We advise you to empty and rinse the water tank of your diffuser and wipe it dry with a clean cloth every time you use a different type of essential oil. This is because essential oils, especially citrus oils*, may cause damage to the disc if left in the water tank. This type of damage is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
*Essential oils to take care with are: Bergamot, Citronella, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Neroli, Orange, Eucalyptus Lemon, Petitgrain, Lemongrass and Melissa.
*All of our Aromatherapy Blends contain citrus except for De Stress and Vitality.
I've been using my diffuser for about a few months now and it has been fine until just recently when I add any oil to the diffuser; a very strange smell comes out of the system. It didn't do this before and has only started recently now. Also there is a mould like substance appaearing often even when I clean it regularly. Really confused as to what is wrong with my diffuser and what I can do to fix it. If it cannot be fixed; I really wouldn't recommend it as I have had it only a few months and this issue as arised so soon!!...Response from NYR on 15.06.17 'We’re really sorry to hear that you are having difficulty using the Skye diffuser. Please do contact us on email@example.com and we’ll be happy to discuss this with you.'
Let's get the bad stuff out the way first. Do not put too much oil in or watch the thickness of oil used. It stops it working, to clear just empty out and put freshwater in and start. Ok once we got this sorted the unit sits wonderfully in the house it is a cracking looking design. Just touch the dome to start, pulsing it through changing lights, solid light or no light then off. The water last for a very long time and gives a relaxing ambiance. rnrnThere is other units that do not have the same isssues with the oil but they do not look as good as this one.
There are quite a few diffusers on the market now (I also have a Muji one which costs about £25 less) but was drawn to this because of its appearance with the bamboo base and the soothing colour-changing lights on the dome.rnrnHowever it does have a couple of niggles which I find surprising as the Muji diffuser doesn't share these issues. Firstly, the power button is on the underside of the base - with up to four presses depending whether you want to operate with the light cycling through colours, static light, or no light (night mode). It would be so nice if you could just touch the dome to operate it instead of having to lift it up to access the button, especially when there's liquid inside.rnrnSecondly, and perhaps more importantly, the diffuser has to be filled more or less exactly to 100ml every time to operate. This means you can't switch it off when it's down to half-full and then come back later and switch it on again, as it'll cut out. You'll need to top it back up first, or as the warnings say, empty and rinse the water tank and wipe dry before changing the oil.rnrnIn short - aesthetically it's lovely but a couple of practical issues that you may want to be aware of.
A good idea, a lovely design with glass rather than plastic cover (although there is plastic where thererncould be clay or glass - the part where you put the rnwater and the essential oil), but ours did not workrnbecause the (plastic) lids did not fit! :( Unfortunately we must return....
Absolutely love it. Beautifully made. Looks lovely on top of the sideboard & goes well even when not turned on. Takes 100 mls water with 5 drops of essential oil. The frosted glass dome changes colour (or you can select a colour )as a mist gently escapes from the centre of it. I turn it on every eve, for about 5 hours. The water / oil needs replacing about every 3 days. I like it so much am thinking of asking Santa for one for my bedroom!
