What’s the difference between an essential oil and an aromatherapy blend?

A single essential oil, such as Frankincense, is extracted from one plant source, while an aromatherapy blend combines several oils pre-mixed to target a specific mood or need, such as calming or uplifting. Can I apply these oils directly to my skin?
